Economic- Pearls are traded throughout the world and some of the biggest Pearl industries are in China, India, and in Japan for their real and synthetic pearls. The real pearls have been traded for thousands of years, and recently in modern times cultured synthetic pearls have become a huge industry and very popular.
Social- Pearls have helped the integration of India and the Middle East because different religions such as the Muslims and Islams in the middle east have traded with the Hindu's and Buddhists in India for their pearls.

In India Hyderabad has become known as the city of pearls and has become one of the largest places with a pearl trading industry in the world. Also, China has advanced economically and socially because due to present day, they have mastered the making of synthetic cultured pearls and are also one of the largest pearl industries in the world. Australia has sold thousands of pearls due to pearl diving and their known South Sea Pearls and Japan has become known for their synthetic pearls due to Kokichi Mikimoto.
